31st October 2013 ‘Rachmaninov Vespers’ – Brandenburg Choral Festival, London

Rach sceneWhere: St Martin in the Fields

When: 21:30 – 22:30

John Allison wrote in the Telegraph earlier this year that our April 2013 performance of the Vespers was one of the “highlights” of the Brandenburg Choral Festival. Having packed out St Martin in the Fields, we are thrilled to be invited back by the Festival to repeat our performance.

Described variously as Rachmaninov’s finest achievement and the greatest musical achievement of the Russian Orthodox Church, this a cappella piece features sumptuous harmonies, wonderful solos and depth of bass voice that the conductor for the premiere performance thought would be impossible to find – “now where on earth are we to find such basses? They are as rare as asparagus at Christmas”

We have since recorded the Vespers and will launch the CD at this performance.

Tickets are on sale from the St Martin in the Fields box office now – click here

The soloists remain the same, with Lorna Perry singing the alto solo and Andrew Shepstone doing the tenor honours.
