As part of its commitment to new music and choral singing, the Joyful Company of Singers runs a Young Composer competition and a conducting fellowship.
The latest recipient of our conducting fellowship is Louisa Denby . Louisa made her first public appearance with us in April 2016 at The Brandenburg Festival in a programme that included Dixit and The Coronation Anthems. Louisa is also choral director and organist at St Edmund’s College Cambridge. We offer our heartfelt congratulations to Louisa.
We are delighted to announce Toby Young as the winner of Young Composer competition for 2016. You will find plenty about Toby at his website which you can access here.
The suite he is writing for us ( a joint commission with Bristol-based Chamber choir Exultate conducted by David Ogden) is based on poems featuring dance by writers including Yeats, Raymond Foss and Maya Angelou. The London première will be on October 20 at St. Paul’s Covent Garden.
